Gold is essential to success when playing World of Warcraft. The currency of the game, gold is necessary for purchasing equipment, obtaining training, and buying and selling at the auction house. Fortunately, there are several ways to earn gold in World of Warcraft.
Professions
In World of Warcraft, characters learn trade skills and crafts, which are known as professions. Deciding early on a profession allows the character to continuously level up as the game is played. Of the available professions, skinning is probably the easiest to start and one of the fastest ways to earn gold. Skinning simply involves killing animals and then skinning them. The hides can then be sold to vendors and other players. Since there is no initial investment, the gold earned from selling hides is all profit.
For those who are not interested in skinning, there are other professions available. Whether the character crafts, harvests, or provides a service, the profession can earn gold. As characters level up and gain more experience in their profession, they are able to produce items or provide services that are worth even more gold.
Grinding
Not all players enjoy grinding, but it is a quick way to earn gold in World of Warcraft. Grinding requires finding an area full of mobs, or mobile objects, that can be killed one at a time but spawn faster than they are killed. By killing and looting in such an area, players can easily obtain gold and items that can be sold. Targeting lower level mobs makes grinding go faster, which produces more loot more quickly. Some of these areas even have reoccurring chests and/or elite items, both of which can make it quicker and easier to get more gold.
Quests
A quest is a task given to a character, typically by a non-player character although some fixed or dropped items may generate quests. Quests are a great way to earn gold in World of Warcraft because the reward for many quests is gold. Even if the quest reward is an item, it can generally be sold.
Buying and Selling
Once players have earned some gold, they can begin buying items at a low price and selling them for a profit. If players are willing to take the time to research items, they can make a great deal of gold by buying items when the market is low or buying high demand items at lower prices. Watching the Trade Channel is an excellent way to find great deals on items for resale because players often try to compete with the Auction House by offering lower prices. Offering a Buyout price in the Auction House also helps when earning gold by buying and selling because some players will pay more for an item if they can buy it now instead of waiting for the auction to end.
Mounts
In World of Warcraft, characters are able to purchase mounts. Having a mount increases the character’s ability to earn gold by increasing their speed. Mounts allow characters to harvest faster, as well as providing quicker travel from place to place.
Different methods of earning gold work better for different characters, but any character can earn enough gold to meet their needs in World of Warcraft if they are willing to put some effort into it.
